BookClub
UI/UX, 2011BookClub is an experiment in long-form reading and typography within the desktop browser. The desktop browser is an often ignored device when it comes to on-screen reading, while devices such as the Kindle and iPad get preferential treatment.
BookClub aims to improve the desktop reading experience in the following ways: Create a rhythmic flow when reading; A superior and less disorienting scrolling experience; Removal of all superfluous UI elements; Usage of full screen real estate; Keyboard navigation (J, K).
You can view the BookClub demo here (Demo #1, Demo #2) on Chrome, Safari or Firefox, or check out the source on GitHub. I've also written a blog post further detailing this project and it's motivations here. I'm interested in developing this into a publishing platform for short stories and creative writing; if you are a developer who would be interested in contributing I would love to hear from you.
**Note: Any and all content on the demo page is for demonstration purposes only, and I make no claim of ownership over the writing or imagery used. If you are the author of said content and would like it taken down please just let me know and I would be happy to take it down. Thank you to James Burke for helping me with this project.
